Cosmic Pizza Makes TV Debut on Chronicle

A few weeks back, ABC Channel 5′s Chronicle put together a half hour on gaming, and who did they call? Little old us at Spoiled Flush Games! Our first — and let’s say… “highly anticipated” — board game Cosmic Pizza was featured during the show’s board gaming segment.

If you’d like to see Sam, Kevin, and CGF’s Rob Seater discuss Cosmic Pizza and some general game design philosophies, you can do so here. The video’s all queued up at the good part.

Spoiled Flush in the Boston Globe

Kevin, Sam, and Cosmic Pizza get major shout-outs in the “Ideas” section of Sunday’s Boston Globe, in an in-depth piece on game design.

The article will be printed in Sunday’s paper, but you can read the whole thing online right now.

Reporter Leon Neyfakh spoke with us extensively for this piece, and we couldn’t be more delighted with the results. It’s a great look at how designers today think about games, especially for people in the dark about the modern era of game design.

Introducing: Designer Diaries

As promised, SpoiledFlushGames.com now features a spiffy designer diary blog!

Each week, a day or two after our latest free game hits the web, we’ll be posting detailed design notes that spell out just what the heck we were thinking. In the first installment, we discuss Playing Card Baseball, the zeitgeist of 2004 in Boston, and poker-mania.

Be sure to keep clicking refresh repeatedly, because the blog will be updated often, and you don’t want to be the last on your block to learn the truth behind the games.

Introducing: Free Games!

We haven’t been up long, but we’ve already added a new feature: Free Games.

See, some years back Kevin and Sam decided to make a book of brand new games you could play with playing cards, dice, dominoes, and objects found in your average junk drawer. While we never published the book, many of the ideas in it have gone on to inspire full-blown publishable games, like Gladiators.

But a lot of those games were a lot of fun, so we’re giving them out here, online for free. We’ll post roughly one of these a week until we run out.

For now, you should definitely grab a friend and a deck of cards and play our first offering, Baseball, a simple, poker-based game that manages to capture the fun of America’s pastime.

And keep your eyes peeled to the Free Games page for future entries, or subscribe to our free games RSS feed.

Welcome to Spoiled Flush Games!

Howdy Internet! Welcome to SpoiledFlushGames.com, the new home of award-winning game designers Kevin Spak and Sam Liberty. Here you’ll find the latest info on our games, or at least, that’s the plan.

We’re still getting things up and running, but eventually we hope to have all kinds of goodies up, like rules, designer diaries, and even podcasts. And whenever there’s news on one of our games, you’ll see that here too. Thanks for visiting!
